How are you sleeping during this winter hibernation season? Ayurvedic medicine recommends bedtime at 9pm and Chinese Medicine recommends 10pm. Why? The gallbladder has it's cleansing time between 11pm and 1pm. Sleeping during this time supports our bodies to integrate what has happened during the day physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I've also heard that every minute we sleep before midnight is worth two. You may notice the "second wind" that comes after 10pm. That's the fire moving through the body initiating the cleansing cycle that happens most optimally when we are sleeping. Essentially, deeper sleep is available for those who are able to get to bed before 10pm and fully benefit from that cycle. Winter is the yin (within) season relating to water in the Chinese 5 element system. The kidneys and bladder are the organs related to the water element. The more we hibernate in a healthy way and honour the natural cycles of dark and light in winter, the more we nurture that part of ourselves that regenerates with rest. Resting now will enable us to sprout out in the spring with renewed energy. Although we all know that sometimes we can end up in a slump come February if we haven't moved our bodies enough, received some sunshine and healthy doses of fresh air. It's all a dance of balance with those winter "blues".
With all of the information coming out about Fukushima, smart meters, GMO's, government conspiracies, climate change and the rest of the great list of tragic things I can be fearful about, I choose love and trust. I've noticed that the inner victim (including the "meany pants" inner critic) doesn't serve me well and is a huge energy leak. When I am coming from fear I am less capable of approaching life situations on earth with clarity and healthy power. From everything I've been reading, I've found there are a "gazillion" (is that a word?) reasons to pretty much be sad, angry and afraid of everything, including the land and water with this radiation situation. You know what? I am choosing to trust anyway even in the face of those emotions as they wash through me. I am choosing to trust the forces of life that have brought me here at this time on the earth so I can take action from a place of love. I'm not talking about ignoring what is happening. I'm talking about strengthening ourselves so we have our vitality on our side as we process our life experiences, approach situations and take action. I'm talking about seeing beneath the surface and trusting the whole picture even when there are a "gazillion" reasons not to.
I am grateful to live with safety, food, health and love which supports me in choosing trust. With that foundation, I can embrace emboding the peace that the world needs. It feels like my job. "Be the change" right? What does the world need and how can I embody that energy every day?
